🌿 A New Song in My Mouth – Psalm 40:3
“He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; many will see and fear and will trust in the Lord.” — Psalm 40:3
In today's verse, the Psalmist continues to testify of the Lord's doing. Yesterday we saw God's deliverance—how He brought him out of the pit of destruction and the miry clay and set his feet upon a rock.
Today, he gives us another testimony: God put a new song in his mouth. The song was unique in two ways.
First, it is a song of praise to our God. Whenever a miracle happens, it will always bring praise to God. I do not know what songs you have been singing. Maybe you have been singing songs of lack, songs of sorrow, songs of constant failure, songs of singleness, songs of an unhappy marriage, songs of anxiety and pain, songs of trouble, songs of bitterness. But when God comes to do His great work in your life—when you call on Jesus Christ—He will deliver you and put in you a new song. Like King David, he sang of God pulling him out of the pit and the miry clay. Songs of victory. Songs of joy and peace. And above all, a song of praise to our God.
Sometimes situations can be tough and trying, but I want you to remember to call on the God who never forsakes us. This evening, my wife and I were in sorrow. She was crying after I shared something personal about our marriage. I held her hand. We found ourselves crying together. Then we held our hands together and worshipped God. We called on the God of Abraham—and He brought us peace. Now we are able to say: *God is faithful.* He has given us a new song—a new song of peace that surpasses all understanding, a new song of joy that comes in the morning, a new song of praise to our God.
Second, many will see and fear. Because of the great work of the Lord for His faithful ones, others will see and fear, and they will trust in Him. Here is a beautiful truth: a new song is not necessarily new lyrics. It is about the great doing of the Lord—moving you from one level to another, from shame to honor, from poverty to wealth, from grace to grace. That is the new song. When others see how God has been faithful, loving, and kind to us, they will learn to trust in the Lord.
May God do a new thing in your life. In your family. In your household. May God remember you and make His face to shine upon you. A song that is not only sung but seen—that is the working of the Lord. May He work in your life, in Jesus' name.
Lord, put a new song in the mouth of everyone reading this. Turn their sorrow into praise. Turn their captivity into victory. Let others see what You have done and learn to trust in You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
