๐ŸŒฟ How Blessed Is the Man Who Trusts in the Lord – Psalm 40:4

“How blessed is the man who has made the Lord his trust, and has not turned to the proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood.” — Psalm 40:4

In verses 1–3 of this Psalm, we saw a testimony being given by the Psalmist. Yesterday, we saw the new song—and I am so grateful to God that many people have come to my inbox testifying that God gave them a new song.

I am particularly drawn to the testimony of my sister Aturinda Deborah Tororo. She wrote:

“Praise the Lord! Thank you so much for the messages of a new song. I thank God that last week He gave me a new song. I am doing my PhD in Education, and I had almost lost hope after contacting some people to lend me money to do exams and pay later. Everyone turned down my request. I requested permission and paid 1 million that my uncle borrowed for me from a savings group, and I was given permission for only two days. Now a new song came in. On the first day of my first exam, a friend whom I am not related to by blood called and asked how far. I told her I am doing exams but with only two days' permission. She immediately said, ‘I am sending all the balance—you will pay me next year.’ I saw a message come: 3.8 million. I am left with two exams, and I will complete my second semester. I thank God so, so, so much. He is loving and faithful. He is my Father. I do not have biological parents, but God is... thank you for the word of encouragement. Pray for more provisions and wisdom to finish the course successfully. On 17th May, we made 18 years in marriage. God healed my husband—the devil was fighting.”

Wow! I believe that you too can read this and give praise to God for the deliverance He has brought to her family—the new song.

Today we are getting into something more interesting: the man who is blessed.

David starts the verse by saying: “How blessed is the man who has made the Lord his trust.” What do you trust in? Do you trust your rich uncles, rich parents, successful relatives, your MPs or ministers, your man of God—apostles, bishops, pastors, or prophets—your own wealth, connections, good English, or academic papers? That doctor for your health—or the medicine itself to restore you? David says: How blessed is the man whose trust is the Lord. When that pain wants to break you down, when hunger has consumed your strength, when anxiety is weakening you, when lack of employment has brought laughter from your family—where do you place your trust? I am not certain about those who trust in things other than God. But I am certain of those whose trust is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: they are blessed! Hallelujah! You are blessed when you trust in the Lord.

The man remains blessed under two conditions.

First, when he has not turned to the proud. Sometimes we turn to proud uncles, prominent men in our communities, or our own works. But you remain blessed when you turn to the Lord—not to the proud.

Second, when he has not turned to those who lapse into falsehood. Sometimes, as humans, we tend to turn to liars, sorcerers—we run to witch doctors, false miracle workers, wicked men and women for help—instead of turning to the Lord who is our Helper. Those who turn to those who lapse into falsehood are not blessed.

I beseech you, by the mercies of God: place your trust in the Lord. Turn to Him each day, and you shall remain blessed.

Father, I thank You so much for the one reading this devotion. If they have been struggling to make You their trust, help them tonight to turn back to You. This I pray through Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.
